Both the Ironmen A and B sides opened up their 2017 seasons over the weekend. The A side traveled to Sackville to play against Mount Allison. Mount Allison put up a strong defensive effort but ultimately a second half offensive surge secured a 36-5 win for the Ironmen. The B side visited the Loyalists home field for a NBRU Mens’s B league match. The Ironmen looked strong but fell to the Loyalists with a final score of 34-7.

2018 celebrates the 50th anniversary of the UNB Rugby Football Club (UNBRFC). As has been tradition, we organize a reunion every five years to welcome team members and supporters back to Fredericton for a weekend of re-connecting, rugby and fun. The UNB Ironmen B side have wont the Toks Akpata trophy for a second year in a row with a big 35-15 victory over Mount Allison. Mount Allison put up a strong fight to the very last minute of the game but the Ironmen were able to hang on to secure their spot in the maritime championships that will take place in November 12th in Nova Scotia. The Ironmen A side will play STU on November 5th at 11am at college field for the A side provincial championship followed by the UNB women’s team playing at 1pm against STU as well for their championship, good luck to both teams!

The Ironmen A side is continuing to look strong as they ran past UPEI for a decisive victory in Sackville on the 23rd. The B side took two tough losses in their two opening games over the weekend but looked in good shape and will definitely be a contender for the championship this year.

The Ironmen kicked off their season this week with the A side traveling to take on UPEI, and the B side taking on the NBRU Barbarians at college field in exhibition action. The A side ran and tackled to a decisive 46-23 win over the Panthers, while the B side fought in a good hard 80 minute battle but narrowly lost out with a final score of 46-42 for the Barbarians.

The Ironmen split the weekend with the B-side playing Saturday & the A-side putting up a Sunday thriller! Both teams showed up to play as the B-side put up a tough fight against the Valley Wildmen and came out on top 26 – 17. The A-side came out flying against STU in the “Battle of the Hill”. Not once was the game ever in question as the Ironmen steam rolled their way to a 73 – 5 victory!

This past Saturday, the Ironmen hosted UPEI in what turned into a great showing for the UNB side. The Ironmen saw contributions from all parts of the field, with solid running, tackling & kicking. Leaving no shadow of a doubt, the Ironmen ran their way to a 57-7 victory!

The Ironmen travelled to Saint John to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves in a classic “Friday Night Lights” game. Playing a late game on the UNBSJ turf, the Ironmen fought hard to claw back late in the game to close the score. Both teams had possession in the last 10, however the Ironmen dropped the game 30-22 to the Seawolves.
